Recharge Your Batteries With a Cosy Country Retreat This New Year
Are you looking for somewhere to go to celebrate New Year? Street Parties not your thing?
This week, we take a look at some of the alternatives out there. Not everyone wants to party until the wee small hours and not everyone wants to be out first-footing round the doors, the way they used to in the days when this was the highlight of the celebrations. Off we went to visit our nearest and dearest, armed with the ‘must have’ gifts of a bottle of Whisky, fruit bun and a piece of coal (for luck). The luck was said to be greater if the bearer was tall dark and handsome! It was deemed very unlucky to set foot over anyone’s doorstep at ‘the bells’ without bringing these items. Scotland in particular are a superstitious bunch and these traditions are often held up today, albeit with less fervour and zeal. However, it’s still customary to take a bottle, flowers or cake when visiting friends and family over the New Year period.
After the busy and (sometimes stressful) few weeks in the lead up to Christmas, the thought of recharging the batteries with a chilled out mini break before embracing the year ahead is becoming more and more popular.
Check out some of these cosy New Year retreats if you fancy a short break away from it all.
