Our Favourite Foods From Around the World
If there’s one thing we adore about travel it’s getting to taste different foods and flavours from all different countries around the world. tripsologists are firm believers that you can learn a lot about a country by it’s eating habits and enjoying all the amazing meals around the world!
tripsology’s Favourite Foods from Around the World:
Moules-Frites
Moules-frites is literally mussels and chips. It originally comes from Belgium but is now incredibly popular in France, especially in the south.
The mussels can be cooked in a number of different ways with different sauces with the most popular one being Moules marinières. This consists of a stock made with white wine, butter, shallots and parsley. Moules-frites is a wonderfully simple dish that tripsologists absolutely love.
Haggis
It would be rude of us not to include our national dish – haggis! We think Scotland’s most famous dish is absolutely delicious despite it’s slightly unpleasant origins. All visitors to Scotland should try the traditional dish of haggis, neeps (mashed turnip) and tatties (potatoes); and of course it should all be washed down with a can of our other national drink Irn Bru.
Pizza
When we say pizza we’re not talking about the greasy, heavy stuff you get in Pizza Hut or most other chain restaurants in the UK. We’re talking about real Italian pizza, the good stuff. The thinner the base the better and we’ll have ours with pepperoni and hot chilli please!
We are firm believers that pizza tastes even more delicious when you eat it in Italy and tripsologists have had incredible pizzas in pizzerias all over the country. Often the smallest pizzerias turn out to be the best ones and always look for one that’s full of locals – they know where to find the best pizza!
Lamb Kleftiko
This delicious dish originated in Greece during the Turkish occupation. It consists of slow cooked lamb with garlic, lemon, oregano and rosemary which makes it a very simple but great dish.
Crème brûlée
This French dish is an all time favourite desert. It has a custard base, flavoured with vanilla, and is topped with a caramelized sugar layer on top. It’s a relatively easy dish to make so great for impressing friends at a meal – yum!
Piadina
Piadina is an Italian flatbread that you’ll find in the Romagna region in the north of the country. They can be eaten hot or cold and are filled with all sorts of delicious items. A tripsology favourite filling is spicy salami, rocket and mild Italian cheese.
