Travelling Scotland – Pride, Patriotism and Deep Scottish Love
It was an ambitious trip. 21 travel bloggers from around the world, travelling Scotland in the depths of winter with a jam-packed itinerary. We would begin in Edinburgh for Hogmanay, then head off into The Scottish Highlands with Haggis Adventures, return to Edinburgh for an evening, then journey to St. Andrews, and finally ending at Alexander House in the Perthshire countryside.
Travelling Scotland in winter can be brutal, I had visions of us freezing our butts off in the snow and getting soaked in the monsoon style rain showers that Scotland is best at. I pictured us seeing nothing because of that grey Scottish mist that sits in and refuses to budge.
But I needn’t have worried.
Scotland brought it’s A game!
The weather throughout our trip was incredible, the temperatures were warm and there were many moments of sunshine and very few showers. This meant we got to enjoy some spectacular sunrises…
As well as some dreamy sunsets…
And as all the bloggers ‘oohed’ and ‘aahed’ over the beauty of Scotland and proclaimed they were feeling the Deep Scottish Love (as dubbed by our fabulous Haggis Adventures Guides Chris and Kay), I couldn’t help but feel so proud to be a part of this overwhelmingly beautiful country.
I’ve always been proud of being Scottish, most Scottish people are actually, but this trip really reminded me just how much. The fact that everyone was getting so excited over things like the lochs, the rolling hills and the constantly black rivers made me realise just how lucky I am. In the past perhaps I’ve taken things like this for granted, but their excitement and enthusiasm made me see the beauty around me with new eyes.
I appreciated everything I saw even more. The amazing weather made our whole trip nothing short of spectacular. Everyone LOVED travelling Scotland. And I loved that everyone was falling head over heels for my country. But who could blame them with such interesting and important history and views like this…
Everywhere we went, especially during our trip to St Andrews, the people we met in cafes, restaurants, bars and tourist attractions were so friendly. It was something many of the bloggers commented on and I was reminded that Scottish people are some of the friendliest people I know. We’re more than happy to chat to new people and love to recommend places to see and things to do. It made me feel deeply patriotic.
The intense natural beauty of Scotland, its deeply interesting history and its friendly people all add up to make it an amazing destination to visit. I bet before long you’ll be feeling the Deep Scottish Love too! Indeed, travelling Scotland was an enriching experience, providing breathtaking scenery and an array of attractions that was truly astounding. If you’re planning on travelling Scotland, you’ll certainly be treated to a nation soaked in rich culture, tradition and spectacular natural beauty – elements which will make for a truly unforgettable trip.
