Dubrovnik…the new hotspot for 2017?
Croatia is showing signs of being THE place to be next summer. Just about every holiday brochure or website I look at these days is really showing her off as the hottest ticket in town. I can see why.
Dubrovnik in particular has been on my wishlist for a while now and I am really tempted. The beaches and islands of the beautiful Adriatic Riviera look very appealing and the city of Dubrovnik itself ticks a lot of boxes for holidaymakers like me who love a splash of history and culture during my two weeks of sun, sea, sand whatever else takes my fancy.
Dubrovnik looks really modern too despite it’s age and it appears to have been well looked after and sympathetically developed so that it can compete with the modern world yet retain it’s historical charm. A perfect blend if you ask me. I really want to look around all of those medieval buildings, ancient palaces and old churches that lie behind those magnificent city walls. I simply love exploring as the sun beats down on me…and stopping off every now and then for cold drink as I digest the sights I’ve just seen or to plan my next move.
Take a cable car ride – is it expensive?
Visit the Fransiscan Monastery – is it worth doing?
Visit some of the islands – which are the best and easiest to tackle from Dubrovnik?
Montenegro day trip – how long does it take to get there from Dubrovnik?
(I saw it in Casino Royale and it looks fabulous!) What can I do when I get there?
Mostar – Are there day trips from Dubrovnik and again, is it a long journey?
(I don’t travel that well in coaches so is it easy enough to drive or take a taxi?)
I’d also love to get some advice on where to stay, I have my eye on a few but they are not the cheapest, although they are reasonably priced compared to some places I’ve been to! The Dubrovnik Palace looks right up my street as does the Rixos Libertas – both available from Thomson for next summer.
I would really love to hear from people who have been before and get hints and tips from them. Over to you talkholiday chums…
I love travel. I’ve been fascinated by other countries and cultures since my first foreign trip in 1985 and I’ve had serious wanderlust ever since.I also love to write about where I’ve been and tripsology lets me indulge that passion. I’m thrilled to be a regular contributor and editor. When I’m not writing I also run my own PR and publicity company.
