Sydney Australia

January and February are usually pretty bleak months in most corners of the globe but it’s all kicking off in Australia. Down under they are basking in hot summer sunshine and Sydney is the place to be.

January in Sydney

In January, the Sydney festival takes place and just about every art form is celebrated – music, theatre, dance, circus acts and cabaret are all on the bill and the city is just bursting with life and vibrancy. Sydney Festival is also committed to making the event accessible to everyone and has included lots of free and cheap tickets too. For example, you can catch some of Australia’s biggest classical stars in action at Opera in the Domain. So, there’s really no excuse for not joining in the fun.

Even the paid for events are still pretty reasonable and after paying for your travel to Oz, another few dollars won’t hurt. Here are some great tips to make the most of your visit to the Sydney Festival.

Visitors and locals alike can enjoy fun-packed sunny days on the beach and then laze around underneath the stars, lapping up great entertainment in warm, balmy nights.

February in Sydney

In February, things really get colourful as the Sydney Mardi Gras descends upon the city. This all singing, all- dancing programme of comedy, music and theatre celebrates Australia’s LGBT culture and is not to be missed. Check out some of the exciting events you could be seeing if you’re in Sydney next month.

Celebrating summer in Sydney is an ideal getaway for us sun-starved daydreamers on the other side of the world! Festivals aside, Sydney is just a fantastic place to visit and here you will find some of the world’s greatest, iconic sights and landmarks. Who hasn’t admired images of the mighty Sydney Harbour Bridge or the famous Opera House? Why not make 2017 the year you take the plunge and book that dream trip to one of Australia’s most dazzling spots.

Sydney Harbour Bridge

Sydney Harbour Bridge

One of the world’s most beautiful natural harbours and its mighty bridge are famous landmarks on the Sydney skyline and no trip to Sydney would be complete without a visit to this amazing structure, which is the largest steel arch bridge in the word and adventurous tourists are welcome to climb up it via Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb. Imagine the views from the top? It’s certainly on our bucket list.

Sydney Opera House

Another ‘must see’ is the Sydney Opera House – and the city’s top music venue. This stunning theatre has around 40 shows per week so there’s bound to be something to take your fancy. There’s also a wonderful Sydney Opera House tour (available in several languages), which is worth doing too. The venue is much admired around the world but it’s also treasured by Australians and in particular, the people of Sydney.

January is also a great time to be here in Sydney as Australians celebrate their national day on the 26th. The area around the harbour is transformed into one great spectacle as ferries decked out in lights and colours take part in the Ferrython race. There are also some hot musical events, notably the Australia Day Concert at Sydney Opera House. Darling Harbour also hosts a fireworks party to top off the Australia Day celebrations.

So, it may be freezing where you are this month but there’s no need to grin and bare it. You could be jetting off to Sydney for everything it has to offer and catch some proper rays while you’re at it. There’s never been a better time to travel to the other side of the world with the amount of competitive flights to Australia and packages to Sydney so why not plan that dream trip you’ve always promised yourself.

Remember to drop in and shout ‘G’day’ to us from your holiday. We can’t wait to see you your pics. Koalas and beers on the beach will be most welcome!
