Bali…Full of Far Eastern Promise
Bali… even the word conjures up images of a paradise island far far away from reality. That’s pretty much what Bali is – an idyllic escape on a rich tropical landscape. If you’re planning your next holiday and only exotic distant shores will do then you really need to consider Bali as your next long haul adventure. The best time to visit Bali is between April and October when there is less rainfall and humidity is lower. Days are pleasant and sunny, perfect for embracing the relaxing, laid back vibe of this atmospheric island. Also known as the ‘Land of the Gods’, Bali exudes serenity, colour and spirituality and although it is a holiday resort, there is still so much to see and do in this ancient and holy place.
Traditional ceremonies, religious customs, dance, art and music are just some of the obvious ingredients that make up Bali’s cultural backdrop and these are all clearly interwoven into daily life. Everything is sacred and you can sense that spirituality really is the rhythm of life here. You could argue that Bali isn’t a destination, it’s more a way of life.
An experience.
Despite being a world-famous resort aimed attracting lots of overseas visitors, Bali remains largely unspoilt, leaving the natural beauty at peace yet it offers first class hotels and amenities for tourists. Come, let me show you some of my favourite hotels on the island that are sure to put you in the mood for a dreamy, blissed out holiday in beautiful Bali.
My favourite Bali hotels are:
A five star, all suite hotel in Kuta Selatan which boasts two restaurants, 24-hour room service and a choice of bars. The resort is a mere 10-minute drive from Bali Collection Shopping Centre and roughly half an hour from Ngurah Rai International Airport.
At Sakal Resort, you can expect authentic Balinese hospitality, top drawer service all rolled into one impeccable service.
Seminyak is one of Bali’s livelier spots which is renowned for its impressive nightlife – ideal for night owls who like to arty into the wee small hours when the sun goes down and then chill out and relax all day in tropical surroundings.
The Samaya is a chic, luxurious retreat offering beachside villas with private pools (bliss!) and 7 Royal Pavilion villas plus there are 22 Royal Courtyard villas among quaint, tropical gardens.
The Samaya also has a spa, gym and fitness centre. The hotel also runs a courtesy bus to nearby shops and restaurants.
A Luxury Collection resort (packages available from UK with Thomas Cook).
The last word in luxury, this stunning hotel is built around beautifully designed lagoons and pools. There is a huge list of activities on offer but if you’ve come to just chill amidst postcard surroundings this place will suit you to a tee.
The impressive Lagoon Spa is worth a few hours of your time though. The therapists blend treatments and ingredients with traditional beauty rituals to offer a totally serene experience for body, mind and soul.
The Laguna’s Balinese hospitality knows no bounds and even offers 24-hour butler service.
Within walking distance to some of Seminyak’s coolest bars and restaurants, The Royal Beach remains one of Bali’s most popular hotels. Set in immaculate grounds and features two swimming pools, it’s ideal for families as well as couples.
Now that you have an idea of where you’ll be staying on the island, why not have a look at some of the things to do and see in Bali. You really didn’t think you’d lie in a hammock for two weeks, now, did you?
Viator have some amazing tours and excursions as well as reasonably priced tickets to many of Bali’s main attractions.
My top five things to do in Bali are:
Elephant safari park, Taro – Bathe and breakfast with the elephants
Bali sacred monkey forest, Mengwi temple and Tanah Lot tour
Traditional Bali village sightseeing trip
Bali water temples tour: Tanah Lot, Ulun Danu and Taman Ayun
Mount Batur volcano sunrise trek with natural hot springs tour
