Best Sunsets and Sunrises Around the World
I’ve been lucky enough to have seen some breathtaking sunsets and sunrises around the world on my travels through thirty five different countries. Here’s just a few of my favourites…
My favourite sunsets and sunrises around the world
The Great Belts Bridge, Denmark
My most memorable sunset ever was sailing underneath The Great Belts Bridge, the third largest suspension bridge in the world which connects part of Denmark to another part of Denmark. I was on board a large cruise ship at the time and gulped my dinner down so quickly I’m surprised I didn’t end up with heartburn just so I could get out on deck to witness this magnificent sight.
As we approached the bridge the sun was setting and the sky turned orange and then pink as we got closer and closer before sailing underneath with what seemed like only inches to spare. Beautiful!
Scotland
I’m a great lover of my home country of Scotland and I believe it has some of the best sunsets. There’s a beach I love to walk along with my dog on the west coast in the summer and last summer I was lucky enough to catch this gorgeous sunset scene.
North Berwick, Scotland
One of my undoubted favourite places in Scotland is the adorable seaside town of North Berwick on the east coast, not too far from Edinburgh. I hired a cottage there with my friends earlier this year to celebrate my birthday and I got to see this beautiful sunset over the beach without even moving from my seat in the kitchen. Best views ever!
Hong Kong
Most of the other photographs here are rural or seaside sunsets, but there is something stunning about urban sunsets. This one I witnessed in the sprawling metropolis of Hong Kong was pretty spectacular.
Australia and New Zealand
When I visited Australia I saw some of the best sunsets ever. There’s plenty of people who swear the sunsets and sunrises in Australia and New Zealand are some of the most spectacular in the world. and who am I to argue?
Another of my favourite sunsets in Australia was this one taken from my balcony in Western Australia.
I’d just finished my last ever exam at university and jumped on a plane to Australia a few days later. I was feeling on top of the world and this sunset matched my mood perfectly.
I’ve definitely seen many more sunsets than I have seen sunrises. Most of the time I’m not up anywhere near early enough to witness the sun rising.
Rimini, Italy
Whilst in Rimini, a seaside town in the north of Italy, I witnessed several sunrises whilst walking home along the beach from nightclubs.
It was the perfect way to clear my head after a night out and so peaceful to witness the sun appearing on top of the horizon while sitting on a deserted beach.
Where have you seen the best sunsets or sunrises around the world? Do you prefer to watch the sun rise or set?
